Agadir
Atlantic beach, 300+ days of sun a year, direct access to the Atlas mountains and the desert.
Agadir is southern Morocco's largest seaside city, rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake on modern plans. It offers what few Moroccan destinations combine: 6 km of fine sand beach, an exceptional microclimate, infrastructure suited to long stays, and immediate proximity to dramatic landscapes — Atlas, desert, palm groves, almond valleys. For travelers who want sun without giving up comfort, it's an ideal anchor point.
The beach and seafront
Agadir's beach stretches 6 km, from the port in the south to the bay's northern tip. It is wide, clean, and lifeguarded in high season (June–September). The seafront promenade (Boulevard du 20 Août) is pedestrian, partially shaded, and lined with cafés and restaurants. Swimming is safe nearly year-round — the water stays cool (16–22°C / 60–72°F) but the air is mild. For surfing, the best spots are in Taghazout (15 min north) and Tamraght.
What to see in the city
- Souk El Had — one of southern Morocco's largest markets, with over 6,000 stalls. Spices, crafts, clothing, food. Best visited in the morning to avoid heat.
- Kasbah Oufella (Agadir Oufella) — remains of the old town from before the earthquake, on a hilltop. Panoramic view over the bay. New cable car from the city center.
- The fishing port — grilled fish restaurants right on the dock, the quintessential local lunch (40–80 MAD).
- Olhão garden — a peaceful park downtown, ideal for a shaded break.
- La Vallée des Oiseaux (Bird Valley) — a free mini botanical zoo, perfect for families.

Where to eat
For fish, head to the port — popular restaurants, fair prices (40–80 MAD for a grilled fish plate with sides). For traditional Moroccan food, the Talborjt neighborhood is full of small family restaurants (tajine 50–80 MAD). The seafront concentrates international chains and world cuisines — convenient but pricier. Neighborhood markets (Hay Mohammadi, Talborjt) sell ultra-fresh produce — favor home cooking if you stay several days.

Frequently asked questions
How long should you stay in Agadir?
For the beach and city itself, 3–4 days are enough. To fully enjoy the area (Paradise Valley, Taroudant, Imouzzer, Tafraoute), plan a week. Many guests stay a month or more, drawn by the climate and affordable long-stay rates.
What is the climate in Agadir?
Agadir has an exceptional microclimate: 300+ days of sun per year, temperatures of 18–28°C (64–82°F) almost year-round, tempered by ocean breezes. Even in winter, you can swim during the warmest hours. Rainfall is rare (200 mm / 8 inches per year).
Best neighborhoods to stay in Agadir?
The seafront (Boulevard du 20 Août) for activity and direct beach access. Hay Mohammadi for a quiet residential area with walking-distance cafés and restaurants (our choice). Founty for a green family setting. Avoid the industrial north bay.
How do you get around Agadir?
Petits taxis (orange) are plentiful and cheap — about 15–25 MAD for most city trips. Alsa buses (lines 22, 31, 32) serve the tourist areas. For day trips, renting a car is more convenient (from 250 MAD / day).
Can you combine Agadir with other destinations?
Yes, and it's a great idea. Taroudant is 1h15 by car, Essaouira 3 hours, Marrakech 3h30. For nature lovers, Paradise Valley is 1 hour, Imouzzer (waterfalls) 1h30, and Tafraoute (painted rocks) 4 hours. Our Agadir apartment is an ideal base camp.
