Agadir in winter: why visit from November to March

22°C on average, 8 hours of sunshine, barely any rain: Agadir is one of Europe's best escapes from winter. Climate, activities, prices, and what to pack.

Updated May 1, 2025

While it rains in Paris and freezes in London, Agadir sits at 22°C with 8 hours of sunshine a day. It’s one of Europe’s best-kept travel secrets: the city has a milder, more stable winter climate than most Mediterranean destinations. Here’s why November to March might be the best time to come.

Agadir’s winter climate

MonthHighLowSunshine/dayRainy days
November22°C14°C7 h3
December20°C12°C7 h4
January20°C11°C7 h4
February21°C12°C8 h3
March22°C13°C8 h2

For comparison: Nice in January is 13°C max with five rainy days. Marrakech in January is 19°C but nights drop to 7°C. Agadir is warmer than Nice and milder at night than Marrakech.

Sea temperature stays at 17–18°C — too cool for long swims, but perfect for surfers in a wetsuit.

What to do in Agadir in winter

The beach without the crowds

The 10 km of sand are nearly empty on weekdays. Walking barefoot, reading in the sun, coffee facing the Atlantic without a reservation — it’s the opposite of summer.

Surf at Taghazout

Winter is high season for surfing: consistent Atlantic swells from October to March, water at 17–18°C in a 3/2 mm wetsuit. Taghazout is 25 minutes by taxi from Agadir.

Day trip to Taroudant

“Little Marrakech” is an hour’s drive away. The medina, the ramparts, the weekly market — all far more pleasant in winter, without the crushing summer heat. Read our Taroudant medina guide →

Paradise Valley

A canyon oasis with natural pools in the Anti-Atlas, 1 hour from Agadir. In winter, the pools are full (rainy season). Light hike, cool water, spectacular landscape.

Souss-Massa National Park

A bird reserve 30 minutes south. Flamingos, bald ibis, ostriches. Great for a half-day.

Why it’s interesting on several levels

For European retirees

Many French, German, and British retirees rent here November through March. Milder weather, two to three times cheaper cost of living, decent healthcare, direct flights from most major European cities.

For remote workers

Time zone UTC+1 (same as continental Europe in winter). Fibre internet widely available. Cafés open all day. Growing digital nomad community.

For families on school holidays

Christmas, mid-term, and spring breaks — Agadir is a 3.5-hour flight from Paris, 3 hours from London. No jet lag. No malaria. No visa for EU/UK nationals.

For surfers

The best season of the year. Consistent swells, few people in the water, bearable temperatures.

What it costs

  • London–Agadir return flight: £90–200 depending on dates (Ryanair, easyJet, Royal Air Maroc)
  • Tagine at a local restaurant: 50–70 MAD (£4–6)
  • Café terrace coffee: 8–12 MAD (~£1)
  • Petit taxi in town: 15–25 MAD (~£2)
  • Surf gear rental: 100–150 MAD/day (£8–12)

Overall, daily life runs 40–50% cheaper than southern Europe.

What to pack

  • Light clothes for daytime (T-shirts, light trousers)
  • A sweater and light jacket for evenings and early mornings
  • Swimsuit (useful for pools, less so for the sea)
  • Good walking shoes (for day trips)
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen — even in winter the sun is strong

For long stays, an apartment beats a hotel

For a one-week-plus stay, an apartment with an equipped kitchen, washing machine, and workspace works out significantly cheaper than a hotel — and lets you live like a local. Our Agadir apartment, 10 minutes from the beach, is designed exactly for these long winter stays.

Agadir isn’t a summer destination. It’s a year-round destination, and winter is probably its best season.
