Taroudant Transport Guide

Marrakech to Taroudant: every transport option (2026)

CTM bus, shared taxi, rental car, private transfer — all the ways to get from Marrakech to Taroudant: real prices, durations, practical tips.

Updated May 14, 2026

Taroudant sits 240 km southwest of Marrakech. The journey takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours depending on transport choice. Here are all your options in 2025, with real prices and practical tips for picking the right one.

The route in brief

Two possible routes between Marrakech and Taroudant:

  • Via Agadir (A7 + N10): 270 km, motorway then main road. 3.5 to 4 hours. Faster and more comfortable — this is the route all public transport takes.
  • Via Tizi n’Test (R203): 215 km, spectacular but winding mountain road. 5 to 6 hours. Avoid by bus, ideal by rental car if you have time and a strong stomach.

Option 1 — CTM or Supratours bus

The simplest and most comfortable option.

  • Operators: CTM and Supratours (similar quality)
  • Departure: Marrakech bus station (about 3 km from the centre, taxi 20–30 MAD)
  • Arrival: Taroudant CTM station, near Bab El Kasbah
  • Duration: 4.5 hours
  • Price: 100 to 130 MAD per person (£8–11 / $11–14)
  • Frequency: 3 to 5 daily departures
  • Booking: online at ctm.ma or supratours.ma, or at the counter (recommended in high season)

Pros: comfortable, air-conditioned, on time, secure luggage in the hold. Cons: slightly longer than a private car, no photo stops.

Option 2 — Shared grand taxi (cheapest)

Shared grand taxis leave when full (6 passengers + driver).

  • Departure: grand taxi station at Bab Doukkala or Bab Aghmat in Marrakech
  • Arrival: Taroudant grand taxi station (right next to the bus station)
  • Duration: 3.5 to 4 hours
  • Price: 80 MAD per person (~£7), or 480 MAD to book the entire taxi (5 seats)
  • Frequency: all day. Expect to wait 30 minutes to 1 hour for the taxi to fill.

Pros: cheapest, quickest once full. Cons: basic comfort (6 people crammed in), no air conditioning, occasionally sporty driving.

Best for solo travellers travelling light and feeling adventurous.

Option 3 — Private taxi or minibus transfer

Maximum comfort, door-to-door.

  • Vehicle: private taxi (up to 3 passengers) or minibus (up to 7)
  • Duration: 3.5 hours
  • Price: 1,000 to 1,500 MAD per vehicle (£80–120 / $100–150), all inclusive
  • Booking: through your Marrakech hotel, or platforms like Welcome Pickups, Daytrip, Bolt
  • Possible stops: Imintanout for lunch, Ouirgane for photos, viewpoint over the Souss plain from the pass

Pros: door-to-door, air-conditioned, flexible stops, ideal with luggage or children. Cons: cost.

For a family of 4, a private transfer ends up the same price as renting a whole grand taxi, with twice the comfort.

Option 4 — Rental car

The most flexible option, especially if you plan to continue to Agadir, Essaouira, or the Atlas valleys.

  • Companies: Sixt, Hertz, Europcar at Marrakech airport, or local agencies (often 30–40% cheaper)
  • Price: from 250 MAD/day (£20) for a small car
  • Fuel: diesel around 14 MAD/L. Budget 200 MAD for the round trip Marrakech–Taroudant.
  • Licence: national driving licence accepted for EU, UK, Swiss, US nationals
  • Recommended route: via the motorway through Agadir for speed, via Tizi n’Test for scenery

In Taroudant, you can park at the city gates (Bab Targhount, Bab El Kasbah) — free or very cheap.

Pros: total flexibility, scenery, autonomy to explore the area. Cons: stress of Moroccan driving, especially on the winding R203.

There’s no train station in Taroudant. Train doesn’t serve this route usefully. Skip it.

Last-minute practical tips

  • Best departure time: 8 or 9 AM (cooler roads, full day ahead)
  • Avoid: leaving after 4 PM in winter (sunset comes early, the road gets less safe)
  • Cash: bring some for shared taxis and rural petrol stations
  • Mobile signal: 4G available throughout the Agadir route, patchy on Tizi n’Test
  • Toilets: rest stop at Imintanout halfway on the Agadir route

What’s next after Taroudant?

If you’re combining Marrakech + Taroudant + Agadir, the most efficient sequence is:

Marrakech (2 nights) → Taroudant (3 nights)Agadir (3 nights) → return flight from Agadir Al Massira (AGA)

This avoids backtracking to Marrakech and uses Agadir airport, which offers low-cost flights to most major European cities. For the Agadir leg, see our guide on Agadir in winter — why November to March is the best season — and the Hay Mohammadi neighborhood where to stay.
