Hay Mohammadi, Agadir: the modern neighborhood to stay in
Quiet, central, 10 minutes from the beach: why Hay Mohammadi is the most practical Agadir neighborhood for your stay — with distances, addresses, and what to expect.
When looking for where to stay in Agadir, the usual advice points to the beachfront — touristy, dense, expensive — or the city centre, loud and less modern. Hay Mohammadi, sitting between the two, remains the underrated choice: modern, quiet, ten minutes by car from the beach, and lived in by Agadiris, not by hotels.
Hay Mohammadi at a glance
Hay Mohammadi is a modern residential district in the north-east of Agadir, built after the 1960 earthquake that rebuilt the entire city. It’s one of the most structured neighborhoods in town: wide streets, recent buildings, neighborhood shops, schools, parks, mosques. The residents are a mix — settled families, young professionals, students.
For a traveller, it’s Agadir’s equivalent of Maarif in Casablanca: not the postcard, but the actual daily life of a modern Moroccan city.
Distances from Hay Mohammadi

- Al Massira airport (AGA): 22 km · 30 min by taxi
- CTM bus station: 5 km · 15 min

What you’ll find on the ground
- Supermarkets: Carrefour Market and Marjane nearby, several neighborhood grocers open late
- Cafés and restaurants: local spots and chains, set menus 50–80 MAD
- Pharmacies: many; several open 24/7 on rotation
- Banks and ATMs: all major Moroccan banks represented
- Bakeries: daily bread and pastries at local prices (not tourist prices)
This is a neighborhood where people live, not a place to sleep between excursions. That changes everything for one-week-plus stays.
Why it’s interesting for travellers
For long stays (1 week+)
Daily costs run 30–40% lower than the beachfront. A coffee: 8–12 MAD instead of 25 MAD at the Marina. A tagine: 50–70 MAD instead of 120 MAD. Over two weeks, that adds up.
For families
Streets are wide and calm. Children can play outside safely. Several public parks and playgrounds within 500 metres.
For remote work
Fibre internet in most modern residences. Quiet cafés to work from. Far less background noise than the beach strip.
For travellers with a rental car
Free street parking in most residential streets. Easy exit toward the Taroudant or Tiznit roads for day trips.
Compared to other Agadir neighborhoods
- Beachfront / Founty: convenient for the beach, but expensive, dense, little local life
- City centre / Talborjt: lively and popular, but loud and less modern
- Marina: pleasant setting, but a tourist bubble with European-priced restaurants
- Hay Mohammadi: modern, quiet, affordable, balanced between comfort and authenticity
